About Josh Kahn Russell

Joshua Kahn Russell is a 23 year old trainer and organizer with Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and has been working to launch the “new” Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) since it’s rebirth in early 2006. He’s trying to take organizing more seriously, and take himself less seriously. Josh has worked in movements for peace, environmental, racial, and economic justice. He was a co-founder of the Activist Resource Center and other student groups at Brandeis University, where he graduated in 2006 with degrees in Women’s Studies and Sociology. He is a member of Bay Rising Affinity Group (BRAG!) and on the National Council of the Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC).
He has contributed chapters to books such as We Don’t Need Another Wave: Dispatches from the Next Generation of Feminists, Real Utopia: Participatory Society for the 21st Century, The Art of Coexistence, and on issues including International Solidarity in Cambodia, Jamaica, and Mexico. Joshua’s articles have appeared in Yes! Magazine, Left Turn, and Z, among others. His artwork has appeared on the cover of books authored by INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence, and Noam Chomsky, and in the Celebrate People’s History poster series. Recently, Joshua was involved in helping organize and coordinate a barrage of organizer training camps and convergences, including the US Social Forum 2007.
Joshua thinks climate chaos is really scary and is doing everything he can to help stop it. He currently lives in Oakland, CA.

Josh-
I am an old school hippie from the 60’s who has been wondering where and when the current generation was going to get on their feet about the travesties going with this country.
Rock on! Congrats for helping wake people up!
Here’s hoping you can avoid the pitfalls that we didn’t.
Love,
Scott
