[...] I thought that maybe posting this conversation I’ve been having with Mark Rudd over e-mail might be useful to some who are interested in knowing about student-syndicalism. Mark Rudd, for those who don’t know, is known for his involvement with the Weather Underground Organization (WUO) which was an extra-militant split off from the old Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). I was told by a friend to e-mail him about Wayne State University SDS’s divestment campaign. Here’s a part of the conversation, to put it in context, I had asked him what Tacoma, WA SDS thought of our divestment idea, and he’s referencing the recent Ohio University SDS anti-free-speech-zone demonstration. Hi Aaron: I didn’t get an immediate response from Patrick at Tacoma, other than he thought divestment a good idea. I’ll pursue it with him. Did you see Joshua Russell’s report on the organizing at U. of Ohio Athens? It’s related to yours in a student syndicalist way. Incidentally, could you define student syndicalism for me? I seem to have forgotten my Carl Davidson. [...]

Further (less rosy) coverage in the aftermath:

' Vision Ohio session draws brief crowd'
http://thepost.baker.ohiou.edu/articles/1970/12/31/news/17464.html

' Student Senate: Protesters answered by student affairs VP'

Anyhow, just thought I'd drop you a line saying how impressed I was with your facilitation of the post-demo meeting. Either RAN trains really well, you have your shit together or both. Your techniques were really good a breaching the 'uh, so we're all in a room together but i don't feel like interacting' uncertainty. IT WAS SWEET.

I also liked your reflections in the previous post regarding the uniformity of the marchers. I agree, while anti-authoritarians (and the like) often have a reactionary digust of things like 'uniforms' and sameness at the same time it can be very powerful. the end.

in solidarity, your new facebok friend,
