Students at Schoolcraft College (”Scraft̶ in Livonia demand an end to military recruiter harassment!

Students organized a new chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (”Scraft SDS̶ at Schoolcraft to demand that recruiters be kicked off the college’s campus. Scraft SDS had expected to hold their campaign’s first action today as recruiters were planning to lure students into the military with an “interactive truck” demonstration, which was to include a “dog-tag machine” and targeting range simulations. However, for better or for worse, the truck broke down and the recruiters were unable to hold their event. Instead of protesting Scraft SDS members passed out information announcing a mass meeting that is being held for students concerned with the recruiter’s presence, to be held on February 28th at 1:00PM in Schoolcraft’s Bradner Library.
The flyers were ripped down and the students were confronted by campus security within less than an hour. According to campus security, they were ordered to confront the students by the college’s President, Conway Jeffress, because the flyers were not approved by Schoolcraft’s Student Activities Board.

One student was told that passing out flyers without approval was “grounds for immediate dismissal.”

Upon calling the office of the college’s newspaper, the Schoolcraft Connection, we learned that public safety came to ask about SDS.  There will be more on this as news comes up.
